Lipid & Cardiovascular
A deep dive into cardiovascular risk markers. AAS universally damage lipid profiles (crushed HDL, elevated LDL), and this panel provides a complete picture including advanced markers like ApoB and Lp(a).
When to Test
Fasted (12 hours minimum). Mid-cycle for damage assessment, or mid-cruise to confirm recovery.
Testing Frequency
Every cycle and every 6 months on cruise/TRT. More often if baseline lipids are poor.
Markers in This Panel(9)
Total Cholesterol
LipidsOverall lipid level; AAS shift the ratio unfavourably.
Ref: 0 – 5.5 mmol/L
HDL
LipidsThe most AAS-sensitive lipid marker. Can drop 30-70% on cycle.
Ref: 1 – 999 mmol/L
LDL
LipidsDirectly atherogenic; rises on most AAS, especially orals.
Ref: 0 – 3.4 mmol/L
Triglycerides
LipidsElevated by insulin resistance, high-carb diets, and some compounds.
Ref: 0 – 2 mmol/L
Non-HDL Cholesterol
LipidsCaptures all atherogenic particles; better predictor than LDL alone.
Ref: 0 – 2.5 mmol/L
ApoB
LipidsGold-standard marker for atherogenic particle count. One ApoB per LDL/VLDL particle.
Ref: 0 – 1.2 g/L
Lp(a)
LipidsGenetically determined cardiovascular risk factor. AAS do not change Lp(a) significantly.
Ref: 0 – 75 nmol/L
CRP
InflammationVascular inflammation marker; elevated CRP adds to lipid-based risk.
Ref: 0 – 5 mg/L
Homocysteine
InflammationIndependent cardiovascular risk marker; treatable with B vitamins.
Ref: 5 – 15 umol/L
