Kidney Health
Monitors kidney function for bodybuilders, who face elevated risk due to high protein intake, creatine use, NSAID use, and nephrotoxic compounds. Includes Cystatin C, which is not affected by muscle mass unlike creatinine.
When to Test
Fasted, morning draw. Avoid intense exercise for 48 hours before testing (exercise elevates creatinine).
Testing Frequency
Every 6 months on TRT/cruise. Every cycle if running compounds known to affect kidneys (Tren, high-dose orals).
Markers in This Panel(7)
Creatinine
Kidney FunctionStandard kidney marker, but elevated by muscle mass and creatine supplementation.
Ref: 60 – 110 umol/L
eGFR
Kidney FunctionEstimated filtration rate derived from creatinine; often falsely low in muscular individuals.
Ref: 90 – 999 mL/min/1.73m2
Cystatin C
Kidney FunctionNot affected by muscle mass or diet. The most accurate kidney marker for bodybuilders.
Ref: 0.55 – 1.15 mg/L
Urea
Kidney FunctionElevated by high protein intake; compare with creatinine for true kidney assessment.
Ref: 3 – 8 mmol/L
Uric Acid
Kidney FunctionCan indicate kidney stress; also elevated by high purine diets.
Ref: 0.2 – 0.42 mmol/L
Albumin/Creatinine Ratio
Kidney FunctionAlbumin-to-creatinine ratio in urine; detects early kidney damage before other markers change.
Ref: — – 2.5 mg/mmol
Potassium
ElectrolytesKidney-regulated electrolyte; abnormal levels suggest renal dysfunction.
Ref: 3.5 – 5 mmol/L
