Large HDL-P

Large HDL Particles

Category: Lipids
Unit: umol/L

Concentration of large HDL particles. These are the most cardioprotective HDL subclass, responsible for the majority of reverse cholesterol transport.

PED Notes

AAS profoundly reduce large HDL-P — these particles are the first to decline on-cycle. Oral AAS have the most severe impact. Large HDL-P is the HDL subclass most associated with cardiovascular protection. On-cycle values often drop to near-zero. Recovery after cycle cessation is slow (3-6 months). Aerobic exercise is the strongest stimulus for large HDL-P production.

Supplements:

  • Omega-3 (EPA/DHA) -- 2-4g/day
  • Niacin -- 500-1000mg extended-release (most effective for raising large HDL-P)

Lifestyle:

  • Regular aerobic exercise 3-5x/week (strongest intervention)
  • If large HDL-P near zero on-cycle, consider shortening cycle
  • Post-cycle: prioritise cardio to accelerate HDL-P recovery
