Serum Iron
Iron Studies marker
Iron
Serum Iron
Category: Iron Studies
Unit: umol/L
Amount of iron circulating in the blood.
PED Notes
AAS-driven increased red blood cell production increases iron demand. Regular blood donors (recommended for high haematocrit) may develop iron deficiency. Monitor iron studies regularly if donating blood.
Supplements (for low iron):
- Iron Bisglycinate -- better absorbed, fewer GI side effects
- Vitamin C -- 500mg with iron to enhance absorption
Tips:
- Take iron on empty stomach or with Vitamin C
- Avoid calcium, coffee, and tea with iron (inhibit absorption)
